About us
Friends of Nilo Forest is an association under Swiss law, in formation, based in Aesch ZH. Its only purpose is the protection of the Nilo Nature Forest Reserve in the East Usambara Mountains, Tanzania.
How it started
As operators of the Nilo Forest Lodge at the boundary of the reserve, we saw the pressures on the forest at first hand: cut stumps, snares, cleared edges, and a forest service with a mandate but little capacity. To work on that, we founded Friends of Nilo Forest.
The association is in formation. Its founders are Ralf Degenhardt and Benjamin Wagner. Until the founding is complete, we do not collect donations or membership fees and we have no bank account. What we do now is build the first monitoring of the reserve through student field placements.
